LAYOVER by V album review

V’s *Layover* EP is soo dreamy🥺 and soulful With its jazzy, R&B vibes, it feels more personal and intimate.

“Rainy Days” reminded me of quiet, reflective moments—like watching raindrops hit the window. The sound of the rain in the intro immediately set the mood. V’s voice in this track is so soft and almost whispery, and the subtle background piano and harmonies make it feel even more intimate. It’s perfect for those moments when you just want to be alone and fantasize about that boyfriend/girlfriend you don’t have.🌧️🫠

*The track “Love Me Again” had me in my feelings—it’s soft but hits emotionally with his deep, raspy voice. His voice had a warm texture, which made the song more emotional and intimate. The soft harmonies and echoing background vocals made it feel like I was lost in memories of a past love. Like he’s singing directly to me, pulling at emotions i didn’t realize were there.🥰
If you guys know an RnB artist called khalid, this song reminded me of him.

*Meanwhile, “Slow Dancing” gave me a nostalgic, lazy summer day vibe. It felt like the perfect soundtrack for a lazy afternoon—think warm sunlight and carefree vibes. The jazzy instrumental paired with his relaxed vocal delivery made it feel nostalgic, almost like a classic ’70s slow jam. What I loved here was the simplicity—there’s no overproduction, just V’s voice flowing effortlessly over the music.👌🏾

“For Us” felt like a deeply emotional, reflective ballad that feels like a heartfelt goodbye. The way his vocals glide over soft instrumentals made me feel sad. It somehow felt both heavy and gentle at the same time.
His voice conveys vulnerability, especially in the high notes, which make the emotions feel raw and real. The subtle harmonies and gentle piano build up the song’s emotional depth, making it a fitting, bittersweet conclusion to the EP. It’s the kind of track that lingers with you long after it ends.🥹

Overall, I loved the vulnerability V showed. The harmonies, soft background vocals, and stripped-down production gave the EP a very genuine, almost live feel. It’s like he’s letting you into his personal world, and that’s something really special.🥺🫶🏾

Since the Ep only has 5 songs, there is no need to make a top 5 list but if I had to list them in an order i liked most, I would put Slow dancing at number one and the rest at number two. There is no number three, four or five 👌🏾

I think RM *Mono* would flow perfectly with Layover, Both albums have a similar introspective and mellow vibe, making them feel like two sides of the same reflective journey. While *Layover* leans into jazz and R&B, *Mono* is more atmospheric, with minimal beats and soothing melodies. Songs like “Forever Rain” and “Seoul” from *Mono* match the calm, reflective mood of tracks like “Rainy Days” and “Love Me Again” on *Layover*. Both albums create a perfect, late-night, introspective soundtrack.

  1. Love me again is my favorite and i really like that it reminded you of Khalid.

Tokyo is my Best song ever from RM and i like to pair it with V’s Scenery. Maybe it’s the sound of camera shutters, or the fact that they sound very lonely while the world moves on around them, i don’t know. But i really think Scenery and Tokyo are a great pair.

V and RM are very alike musically and i really hope they sing another song together now that they’ve found their voices

    1. Omg i love how u just explained Tokyo 🥹
Unfortunately I only listened to Layover so I didn’t get to his singles but with that explanation, I’m definitely checking out Scenery🫶🏽

  2. You should really watch V’s Performance of Layover on Tiny Desk Korea. Or his Jazz covers of ‘Heaven’ (Louis Armstrong x Ella Fitsgerald) and ‘It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas’ (Micheal Duble). Trust me on this, you’re in for a treat.
