BTS “2 Cool 4 Skool” album review.

What is this and why do I need more?

First of all, the album title *2 Cool 4 Skool* is peak 2013 energy, with that “2” instead of “too” and the “kool” instead of “cool.” It’s giving heavy early 2010s texting vibes—My 12 year old self thought spelling things like that automatically made me edgy and cool lol.

They came for necks with this one , and let me tell you, I was not ready.listening to this album feels like tapping into some wild energy—it’s raw, messy, but so unapologetically hungry. Each song feels like a mini-time capsule of youth trying to break free from societal norms, SO relatable.

Intro: 2 Cool 4 Skool (feat. DJ Friz)

This intro is serving old-school realness, and I am HERE for it. The DJ adds a classic scratch sound, which instantly gives it that underground hip-hop vibe.

We Are Bulletproof Pt. 2

If this isn’t your top two favorite track on this album, I’m judging you!
Y’ALL. This track? The rappers went off, and the beat slaps too. RM, Suga, and J-Hope came in like they had something to prove, and they really did.

Wait Jung Kook is a rapper too? What is happening? Like what do you mean:

“The name is Jungkook, the scale is nationwide”
I learned this is a wordplay to his name,
The Korean word for “nationwide”, (jeon-guk), rhymes with “Jungkook”
Okay Jungkook, i see you!

I think I’m addicted to the chorus.Jimin ate that! I just know I’m going to start randomly singing

“Oh! 나만치 해봤다면 돌을 던져”
Well…I’ll be singing something similar to that because the only word i can pronounce on that line is “Oh”

The rappers each have such distinct styles! I was worried at first that I wouldn’t be able to tell them apart when they are together but their flows are so unique that it was actually easy to recognize who’s who just by listening.
The fact that I’ve listened to them individually, made it actually easier to recognize their voices and styles in the group tracks.

-RM : RM’s delivery is often deep, commanding,He has a heavier, more deliberate flow, he has an authority in his voice, which sets him apart.its like, if he told me to clean the house , I’d be folding the laundry before he even finished the sentence. That deep, powerful tone could probably make me melt and do anything—like, “Sure, RM, whatever you say, where do I sign up?”
RM also has such an east coast hip hop style and sound. I wonder if he has ever lived in New York? Or maybe he is mostly inspired by that style of rap? P.S I’m not American, I’m just a fan of hip hop.

SUGA: Suga’s flow is slick and precise. He tends to rap in a way that feels super effortless. He just has the smoothest cadence—he’s the kind of rapper who makes it seem like he’s not even trying. His voice is also a bit higher in pitch compared to RM’s deep tone, and it often carries a more laid-back, yet intense, vibe.

J HOPE: J-Hope brings the energy. His flow is fast-paced, rhythmic, and filled with expression. I noticed that J-Hope’s verses often have a playful, almost bouncy quality to them. he switches between hype and melodic seamlessly, adding a layer of brightness to the track.

He is easy to spot because of how upbeat and energetic he is. His flow is fast and playful, He brings a lot of rhythm into his verses, and you can hear him switch tones really quickly, which makes his raps feel exciting. Compared to RM or Suga, J-Hope’s verses sound brighter and more hype, almost like he’s adding a little bounce to the track. His part just makes you want to dance or just gets you hyped.

No More Dream

Is that my babies Jimin and Jin on the post- chorus? That was my favorite part of the song. I also loved Suga’s flow on this song, he just owned the whole song for me.

“I wanna big house, big cars, and big rings”
I just love the way he says that.
Also “No more Dreams” is such a solid debut title track.

Interlude

Not much to say here—it’s a vibe check before diving back into the chaos. A little break but kind of needed after the intensity of the first three tracks.

I LIKE IT

Yes! Yes i like it.
What a song! The “Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh” at the beginning by jungkook? Ladies and gentlemen, we have a vocalist!
I can’t lie, this track is a BOP. It’s a more chill, R&B-infused track, and it shows the softer side of BTS. It’s all about crushing on someone and liking them despite not knowing everything about them. Basically how i feel about J Hope lol.
The vibe is smooth, and it’s giving me “cute flirtation energy” vibes. They were already showing their versatility early on. They can do hardcore, but they can also chill out and talk about love.

Jung kook vocals have this effortless charm that makes the song feel light and flirtatious. You can hear the youthful energy in his tone—there’s a softness and warmth to his delivery, especially during the more melodic sections. His voice kind of floats over the beat, giving the track an easy, almost breezy feeling. It’s the kind of vocal performance that draws you in without being too flashy. Than man has a gorgeous voice!

And OMG RM’s deep voice? He comes in with that deep, smooth tone.I can’t stop drooling. The way he delivers his lines with so much confidence and control, it’s like he’s not even trying, that’s one hell of a zaddy voice he got lol. It’s the kind of voice that makes you weak in the knees without even realizing it. Like, how am I supposed to concentrate when RM’s over here turning a simple melody into pure vocal seduction?

Every time I hear his part, I’m like, “Okay, RM, I’ll do whatever you want, just keep talking.”

Circle Room Cypher

Chaos. Absolute chaos, but in the BEST way. The whole freestyle was so funny.
“Hope’s in front of me, he’s getting nervous now.Why are you shaking? “

LMFAOO!! Why did V have to come for Hope like that. Hahah
This track was fun. It’s not polished, but it’s raw and fun, like when you’re goofing around with friends and just saying the most random stuff. Also, can we talk about how Suga and RM are lowkey savage here? They really went off. I love it.

Final Thoughts

*2 Cool 4 Skool* is chaotic, rough around the edges, and so full of ambition—and that’s what makes it special. It’s the beginning of BTS, but you can already see the sparks of greatness. They were just these kids trying to find their place in the world, and honestly, isn’t that all of us?
Listening to this album now, knowing where BTS is today, is wild. They had hunger and drive.Llooking back, it’s clear that BTS was destined for greatness.

What also impressed me about this album how their lyrics reflect a maturity and depth beyond their years. To think they made this album at the age of 17-22 is crazy to me.
The way songs like “No More Dream” tackle societal pressures and expectations. They weren’t just going with generic pop lyrics—they were tapping into real emotions and struggles that young people face, making their music feel authentic and relatable. For a debut album, the depth and range of topics they tackled is next level.
