Agust D(Suga) SELF TITLED ALBUM REVIEW

This album was an intense and raw introduction to Suga’s (Agust D) mindset as both an artist and individual. As someone new to K-pop, I was struck by the brutal honesty and emotional weight of the tracks.

The title track, “Agust D,” felt like a declaration of independence. His fast-paced, aggressive flow gave me chills, and his self-confidence is undeniable. My favorite line was when he said

”Fuck you, I’m the thorn in the side of those hyungs that are far from success”

This line felt to me like he was expressing defiance and frustration, particularly toward older or more experienced people (“hyungs”)
People who may have doubted or criticized his success.
By saying he’s “the thorn in the side” of those individuals, he positions himself as a source of discomfort or irritation to them, likely because he’s achieved success in a way that they haven’t or didn’t expect him to. It reflected his confidence in surpassing expectations and proving wrong those who might have underestimated him. And that just stayed with me because we all have those people in our lives.
Just to be clear, this is probably not what he meant, but the fun thing about rap music is this process of speculating what the artist means.
This is what i feel when i listen to rappers like Kendrick,Jay Z and J Cole
The clever wordplay, metaphors, and double entendres that keeps me guessing 🤌🏾

“Give It to Me” feels like it brings back the confidence but with more anger. The way he takes shots at haters and doubters with lines like,
“I’m still not sure about the secret to success
But I think I know the secret to failure
The secret is to play the fool just like you
And keep blabbing your mouth”

I fucking LOVED that line, like yasssss!!!

His delivery was intense, and the way he rhymes with rhythmic precision impressed me. The song feels like a cathartic release of pent-up frustration.

724148” I loved the storytelling 🥹 my favorite album of all times is G.K.M.C by Kendrick bcs of the way he tells a story in that album so this song was just perfect to me. The way he recounts his journey from his hometown to Seoul👌🏾. My research tells me the title of the song refers to a train route he used to take(I could be wrong).
The detail in the lyrics made me feel like I was on that journey with him. His wordplay here is simple but effective, giving the song a nostalgic yet determined tone.💜

In “The Last,” I was floored by how deeply personal it gets. The way he opens up about mental health struggles, including anxiety and depression, which I wasn’t expecting at all. The vulnerability in the lyrics is matched by haunting instrumentals, making it hit even harder emotionally. This track felt like Suga was baring his soul, and it left me reflecting on how rare it is to hear such openness in music.
Favorite line on this song was when he said ;

“On the other side of the famous idol rapper
Stands my weak self, it’s a bit dangerous”

I felt he was reflecting on the duality of his persona as both a famous idol rapper and a vulnerable individual. He acknowledges the contrast between the public image of success, fame, and confidence (“the famous idol rapper”) and his private self, which feels “weak” or insecure. The
pressure of maintaining his public persona while grappling with personal struggles.

Overall This album isn’t about being polished or pretty; it’s about being real and unapologetic.
The entire album feels like Suga is telling his story—both the pain and the triumph. What impressed me the most was how he didn’t stick to just one theme or vibe; it’s a mix of rage, reflection, and ambition, making it not just a collection of songs, but a full emotional experience. Damn that was a ride 🫶🏾
