Agust D “D-2” album review

Okay, so I just finished listening to **Agust D’s “D-2″** album, and lemme just say… my mind is BLOWN. Having already listened to his self titled album, I went in expecting greatness and still wasn’t ready.

First off, the whole vibe of the album is raw, emotional, and powerful, but still kinda chill? Like, how can something be laid-back but intense at the same time?? This dude has layers.

### 1. **Daechwita**
Bruh. This track had me hyped from the jump. The instruments mixed with that hard trap beat? I could feel the KING ENERGY coming through my headphones. Yoongi’s bars here are aggressive but still so smooth.

Goggles says “Daechwita” is a traditional Korean musical genre born in the late Joseon dynasty, which used to be performed in royalty processions, was characterized by including wind instruments and percussion. Today it continues to be used on special occasions and for military purposes.

Am I reaching if i say he might have used it as a double meaning?? Hear me out… so “Daechwita” is like a battle anthem, but at the same time, it’s him crowning himself king👀
You know, since google said Daechwita was performed in royal processions👀
and basically reflecting on his hard journey to success??🤭

Anyway I’m gonna stop reaching and tell you my favorite line.

“Shove the past into a rice chest
I’m about to dine on what I know is mine”

I felt like this line suggests a metaphorical act of putting away or burying the past in order to move forward and claiming what rightfully belongs to him.

– **”Shove the past into a rice chest”**: This likely means to lock away or forget past experiences, much like how a rice chest is used for storage. The rice chest could symbolize containment, a place where something is preserved but no longer in view or immediately accessible.

– **”I’m about to dine on what I know is mine”**:
I think this is pretty clear. This part feels like he is reflecting confidence and empowerment. He is ready to seize an opportunity or claim something he believe is rightfully his, almost as if he is about to feast on success or fulfillment.

Together, the lyrics convey a theme of letting go of past baggage to focus on future gains.

### 2. **What Do You Think?**

So he popped out on this song and decided to remind me I’m poor 😭
The song is basically Agust D telling people to mind their own business in the most epic way possible. He was not afraid to call out his haters and critics,The flow is like a perfect balance of cocky and carefree. It’s like a “yeah, I’m THAT guy” energy without even trying too hard. Honestly, goals.

FAVORITE LYRICS

“For I’m not concerned by stray grains of rice that’ve stuck
Just like they’ve fallen off of their own accord, the whole lot of them, go fuck yourself huh”

“For I’m not concerned by stray grains of rice that’ve stuck”**: The “stray grains of rice” seem to represent minor issues, small criticisms, or people clinging to him for selfish reasons. He’s saying he’s unbothered by these small, irrelevant things.

“Just like they’ve fallen off of their own accord, the whole lot of them, go fuck yourself huh”**: He’s dismissing those who’ve left or who don’t matter anymore, saying they’ve fallen away on their own. His response to them? A blunt “go fuck yourself.”

He’s unbothered by the irrelevant noise, cutting ties with fake or toxic energy, and confidently telling his haters or doubters to stay pressed. It’s all about focusing on his own grind and brushing off the small stuff.

### 3. **Strange** (feat. RM)
Okay, so having **RM** on this track?
OMGGG THE COLLAB I NEVER KNEW I NEEDED 🔥😭 MY FAVES TOGETHER??? I’M ASCENDING 😭✨
Genius. This was one of my favorites for sure because it has this real introspective vibe. They’re rapping about society and how everything feels kinda off. It’s deep but in a way that makes you think without being preachy. Yoongi and Namjoon’s voices together are *chef’s kiss*, and the whole song is a trip.
So on this song I’m not even going to choose a favorite lyric, I’m just going to analyze the whole song😭😭 I’m sorry 🤭

Agust D ‘s verse (part 1)

“The world is a giant system
In it, either opposition, war, or survival is inserted
Life that we can’t refuse
With dreams as its collateral, the capitalism injects the morphine called ‘hope’
Wealth breeds wealth and tests greed
The rich longs even for poverty
In the world there’s only black and white, those two
In an endless zero-sum game, the very end is worth seeing
Polarization is the ugliest flower in the world
It’s been long since the truth’s been eaten away by the lies
Who benefits the most?
Just who suffers damage the most?”
Whew!!

Here Agust is calling out how the world runs on systems of **capitalism, greed, and inequality**. He’s basically saying life feels like a game where you’re forced to play, and the only choices seem to be **fighting**, **surviving**, or getting crushed by the system.👏🏾

“Life that we can’t refuse”: No one asked to be born into this mess, but here we are, dealing with it.

This one was my favorite!

“Capitalism injects the morphine called ‘hope'”**: Basically capitalism keeps people chasing dreams and hope like a drug to keep them working and consuming, but it’s all just keeping the system going!!!🗣️

– **”Wealth breeds wealth and tests greed”**: The rich keep getting richer, and everyone’s just fighting for more.😢

– **”The rich longs even for poverty”**: Even the rich want what the poor have, but more as an aesthetic or to feel ‘grounded.’ It’s giving “poverty tourism” vibes.🤷🏽‍♀️

“Truth’s been eaten away by the lies” I took this line as him saying Real talk is buried by fake narratives, usually spread by the people benefiting the most.

He’s basically asking: **who’s actually winning here**, and who’s getting hurt the most by all this? It’s a **deep critique of the system**, pointing out how messed up things are while questioning who really benefits from it all. Damn!

Agust verse (part 2)

“In a sick world, a person that is well
Isn’t it strange how they are treated as a mutant
In a world with its eyes closed, a person with theirs open
Isn’t it strange how now they are made blind
Someone who wishes for peace, someone who wishes for war
Isn’t it strange how they are each at the extremes of their ideologies
They tell you to have dreams, though no one has it
There are no answers, isn’t it strange”

It feels like he is talking about how being “normal” in a messed-up world makes you stand out in the worst way. It’s like, if you’re mentally or emotionally healthy in a society that’s sick, you’re the one who seems weird or out of place.

“In a sick world, a person that is well / Isn’t it strange how they are treated as a mutant”

If you’re trying to stay sane and think clearly, you’re seen as an outcast or someone who doesn’t fit in.

Then he dives into how **truth is twisted**: if you’re awake and aware of what’s really going on, the world almost forces you to shut your eyes and play along with the ignorance.

– **”In a world with its eyes closed, a person with theirs open / Isn’t it strange how now they are made blind”**:
People who see the truth are dismissed or silenced, like they’re crazy or blind for seeing the reality others are ignoring.

Next, he talks about how **extremes are becoming the norm**: if you’re all about peace, you’re considered too soft, and if you want conflict, you’re seen as extreme. There’s no middle ground anymore, and people are constantly pushed to the edges.

– **”Someone who wishes for peace, someone who wishes for war / Isn’t it strange how they are each at the extremes of their ideologies”**: No balance, just polarization everywhere.

– **”They tell you to have dreams, though no one has it”**: The world sells you on having big goals, but it’s lowkey impossible to achieve them in the current state of things.

Overall, Agust D is saying how upside-down the world is, where being real, peaceful, and awake makes you seem like the odd one out.

RM’s verse (Part 1)

You think you got taste?
Oh babe, how do you know?
I mean for God’s sake
Everything’s under control
The choices you’ve been given
Are all preferences controlled by the capital
People talk
‘My feed explains me’
No matter how much money is in your grasp
Everyone’s a slave to this system
The dog necklace and dog house you are so busy bragging about
All day, fighting over whose glimmer more
Now even you won’t know
Oh baby, what’s your name?
Polarization, the flower that’s already bloomed
A round nail that has been hammered into a square hole
Even so, I roll on, however so, like this
In each of their chicken coops, everyone claims they are fine”

– **”You think you got taste? / Oh babe, how do you know?”**:
He’s questioning people who think their preferences are unique or personal. Basically, he’s saying, “Do you *really* know what you like, or are you just following trends?” Oop🤭

– **”Everything’s under control / The choices you’ve been given / Are all preferences controlled by the capital”**: The things you think are your own choices—fashion, style, lifestyle—are actually manipulated by capitalism. Brands, ads, and big corporations decide what’s “cool” and people just follow.

Then he critiques social media culture:
– **”People talk / ‘My feed explains me'”**: People think their social media feed reflects who they are, but really, it’s just a curated version of themselves, shaped by algorithms and trends.

Next, RM points out how **money doesn’t equal freedom**:
– **”No matter how much money is in your grasp / Everyone’s a slave to this system”**: Even if you have cash, you’re still stuck in a system that keeps you running on a hamster wheel, trying to keep up with society’s expectations.

– **”Now even you won’t know / Oh baby, what’s your name?”**: The constant chase for material success and trends has made people lose sight of who they really are.

– **”Polarization, the flower that’s already bloomed”**: The world is already divided into extremes, and it’s been this way for a while.
– **”A round nail that has been hammered into a square hole”**: People are forced into roles or boxes they don’t fit in, but society keeps pushing them to conform.

RM also touches on **self-delusion** and how people act like they’re okay when they’re not:
– **”In each of their chicken coops, everyone claims they are fine”**: People are stuck in their own little “coops,” pretending everything’s good, but in reality, they’re just trapped in a system that keeps them controlled and confined.

Overall, RM is calling out the fake freedom people feel in a world dominated by capitalism, social media, and shallow materialism. People think they have control over their lives, but they’re actually stuck in a system that shapes their choices, identity, and success.

RM verse (part 2)

“In a world with its eyes closed, a person with theirs open
I think it’s more strange that only they have theirs open
Someone who wishes for peace, someone who wishes for war
The wordplay that changes as easy as the flipping of a palm
It’s the kind of world where a dream has become an option, but
There’s no answer, that’s the answer”

– **”In a world with its eyes closed, a person with theirs open / I think it’s more strange that only they have theirs open”**:
Instead of thinking the “awake” person is odd, RM’s saying it’s actually weirder that more people *aren’t* opening their eyes to reality. Like, why aren’t more people aware of the BS?

Next, RM calls out how **people switch up their beliefs and values** depending on what’s convenient. One minute someone’s for peace, the next they’re all about conflict—it’s all just shallow wordplay.

– **”Someone who wishes for peace, someone who wishes for war / The wordplay that changes as easy as the flipping of a palm”**: People’s ideologies shift as easily as flipping a coin, depending on what benefits them or makes them look good.

### 4. **28** (feat. NiiHWA)
This one hit different. The song has a more mellow vibe, but it’s also kinda sad? It’s like a reflection on life and growing up, and it just made me feel things. I think Yoongi really captures that weird feeling of adulthood here.

### 5. **Burn It** (feat. MAX)
This song was a pleasant surprise! The featured artist vocals were such a cool contrast to Agust D’s rapping. The beat is kinda haunting, and the whole song has this *”I’m burning my past and starting fresh”* energy. Yoongi talking about burning down his regrets and moving forward really resonated. It’s that post-breakup glow-up energy, but like on a whole other level.

### 6. **People**
This song was super *chill*. The instrumental is super smooth, and it’s one of those songs you could just vibe to late at night. It’s the kind of song that sneaks up on you emotionally. One minute you’re vibing, and the next, you’re having an existential crisis.

### 7. **Honsool**
This is like the sad-drunk song on the album, and honestly, we’ve all been there. Doolset said the title is referring to alcohol that one drinks alone or the activity of drinking alone.
and you can feel that emotion all through it. It’s not just about alcohol, though; it’s more about those late-night thoughts when you’re reflecting on life and everything you’ve been through. Yoongi’s voice here is so raw and real, and the chill beat makes it feel even more personal.

### 8. **Interlude: Set Me Free**
This was like a breather in the album. It’s short, but the instrumental here is beautiful. It almost felt like a moment of peace before the storm, and I think it adds so much to the overall flow of the album. It’s like Yoongi saying, “Let me breathe for a sec.”

### 9. **Dear My Friend** (feat. Kim Jong Wan)
This was also hit so hard. It’s a letter to an old friend, and you can hear the regret and nostalgia in his voice. The song is sad but beautiful at the same time, and you can tell this is a personal one for Yoongi. I think the **storytelling** in this song is what got me the most. You don’t even need to know the backstory to feel the pain in his words.

If I had to describe this album in one word, it would be: GROWTH. I could tell Yoongi has evolved not just as a rapper but as a person. He’s honest, he’s reflective, and he’s unafraid to show all sides of himself. **”D-2″** isn’t just music; it’s an experience. 👑🔥
